Investing in Private Equity takes a lot more than just expertise in analysing an investment opportunity and a lot of idle cash in your hands.   1. Pre-IPO companies:
    Pre-IPO investments are made in a Private or Public Limited company that is yet to list itself in the exchange with an Initial Public Offering (IPO). Investment in pre-IPO companies can generate a lot of money for investors. These shares previously were only available for HNIs, UHNIs, hedge funds, private equity, and banks. Now, the general public can also invest in these shares with the support of a stock broker or a trusted intermediary. There are rules in place that allow corporations to dematerialize its shares, allowing everyone to buy such stocks easily and transfer it from one Demat A/C to another.

  2. Startups:
    Investment in startups demands more than just financial acumen & a bank account full of money.     1. Angel Investing: Angel Investing is a form of an early-stage investing in which successful individuals provide their funds to a startup.     6. Direct Investments: Direct Investments involve HNIs & UHNIs directly investing in a startup by going through a formal route of Venture Capital.
    7. Secondary Market: This offers liquidity to early investors, employees, or other stakeholders who hold shares in startups or Private Companies before going public

  3. Buying ESOPs from employees:
    In case of ESOPs, employees of a company get an option of buying their company's share at a lower price than Fair Market Value as of that date. They can exercise these options upon completing a pre-decided vesting period. With the help of a stockbroker one can find such employees and buy their shares in the secondary market.

  4. Buying directly from promoters:
    The objective behind such investment is to get significant shareholding in an unlisted company. For this an investor need to look for Investment Banks, Wealth Managers & Trusted Stock Brokers.

  5. Through PMS & AIF schemes with exposure to unlisted companies:
    In case of PMS & AIF schemes an investor needs to look for a PMS organization or an Alternate Investment Fund who have incorporated alternate investment opportunities into their strategies

  6. Pre IPO Funds:
    Pre IPO Funds are very similar to Mutual Funds, they pool money from multiple investors specifically to invest in private companies.
